Immigration Built On a Shared Humanity
Immigration policy should reflect our deepest values: dignity, justice, and the belief that every person deserves safety and opportunity. In Tennessee’s Third District, immigrants are workers, students, entrepreneurs, and neighbors who strengthen our communities. I believe we must move beyond fear-based politics and build a system rooted in human rights and economic fairness.
Human Rights First
No one should be treated as disposable because of where they were born. I support ending policies that criminalize migration, expanding humane reception and case management programs, and ensuring that detention is limited and never used to profit from people’s suffering. Families belong together, and children deserve protection — not trauma.
A Clear Path to Citizenship
Millions of long-term residents are already part of our communities. I support an earned pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, permanent protections for Dreamers and mixed-status families, and modernized visa programs that reflect real workforce needs while preventing exploitation.
Safe Communities Through Trust, Not Fear
Public safety depends on trust. I support limiting local entanglement in federal immigration enforcement so families feel safe reporting crimes, attending school, and seeking medical care without fear of deportation. Strong communities come from cooperation, not intimidation.
Worker Justice and Economic Fairness
Immigration reform must include strong labor protections, the right to organize, and enforcement against employers who exploit undocumented workers to drive down wages. Protecting immigrant workers protects all workers and strengthens local economies.
Immigration built on shared humanity means rejecting cruelty and embracing courage — building policies that recognize our interdependence and create a fairer, more compassionate future for everyone who calls our district home.
