CAN CHATTANOOGA BE A CITY FOR ALL PEOPLE?
• Can Chattanooga be a place where possibility and opportunity are destined?
• Where needs are met because of our humanity, not because we have earned such basic requirements
• Where our collective community contract around safety and security extend from the wealthiest to the impoverished?
• And where public officials are concerned for all, regardless of a resident’s station in life?
IS THAT POSSIBLE?
My commitment to serving District 8 is fueled by an unquestioning “yes.”
It sounds so simple – living and working in a place that provides every person with the opportunities necessary for a healthy, safe, and successful life. For far too long, Chattanooga has catered to the industries that make our city profitable, while losing sight of many who wove the city into a rich, diverse tapestry.
IF ABUNDANCE IS ATTAINABLE FOR SOME,
IT MUST BE POSSIBLE FOR ALL.
ABOUT YOU. FOR YOU.
The possibilities that exist for ALL of us are still being unearthed.
Chattanooga is more than just the city where I live. It is a community home to a diverse tapestry of humanity, one that is talented and worthy of a fair allocation of resources.
We can do this. But it must be done together. Collectively. And with care.
Priorities & Values
Economic Equity
With an economy as vibrant as ours, there is no reason the racial wealth gap is still on par with the national average. Creating conditions for economic parity is important not only for the people of Chattanooga but also for the current industry our city supports and the new ones it welcomes.
Affordable, Accessible Housing
Finding housing that is affordable and accessible to public transit is not just difficult – it is creating an epidemic in District 8. Cities across the country are finding creative solutions to their housing crisis through partnerships and the utilization of vacant properties. Tactics similar to these are ideal for Chattanooga.
Practical, Available Resources
District 8 represents one of the largest unhoused communities in our city and is a district in a literal food desert. With our district covering almost 11 square miles of distance, access to food, housing, and city services must be within reach without transportation restrictions.
Our elder and adolescent populations continue to grow. With that growth comes the need for services and programming – and accessible locations for both.
Public Safety
When elected officials shy away from speaking out about public safety, they often fear political repercussions or are willfully uninformed regarding the challenges surrounding the community. Our city is not immune to property and violent crime, nor can we police and incarcerate our way to security. True cooperation and communication between the city, law enforcement, and health agencies is critical to a changing tide.
Sensible Infrastructure & Fiscal Responsibility
Chattanooga receives hundreds of millions of dollars each year for public and private projects. How is that money allocated? Who benefits from each initiative? We must be committed to asking the hard questions that create conditions for the funding to be ethically and rationally spent.
Infrastructure costs account for a significant portion of your tax dollars. Street and sidewalk maintenance, wastewater and environmental needs, transportation, and recreational projects are all aspects of the city budget. My priority is to spend sensibly, ask difficult questions, and push for transparency around spending – all while keeping the health and safety of residents at the top of mind.
